Engineering with Legos

Does your child have a knack for building things?  Are they inventive?  Do they like working with their hands and using manipulatives?  If so, then Engineering with Legos is the club for you!

Brain Builders Educational Programs presents, Engineering with Lego Blocks: “Race Cars 101″.  In this fun, hands-on class, students will learn the fundamentals of launcars and how they work.  They will be introduced to concepts such as friction, aerodynamics, energy, and how they play a role in cars.  Each day, students will engineer with Lego blocks and experiment with different designs to optimize their car’s potential.  They will be building rubber band and gravity powered cars.  Challenges include the fastest and slowest car on our custom 16 foot track, similar to the pine wood derby.  Students will also have a chance to earn prizes and medals during our final day challenges!

Engineering is more than just science.  It involves: identifying the task and setting a goal, planning how to achieve your goal by using math, science, and logic, and building what you planned to achieve that goal!

The Mission Basilica School Engineering with Legos program takes place on Wednesdays from 2:35-3:35 and is for grades 1-6 (enrollment limited to 20 students).  For an eight week program, the cost is just $105.  The dates that this club will meet are as follows: 1/11, 1/18, 1/25, 2/1, 2/8, 2/15, 2/22, and 2/29.
