Altar Servers
The Mission Basilica School Altar Server Ministry is an opportunity to participate in one of the most important liturgical ministries at the Mission Basilica. The Mission Basilica is a special setting for Altar Servers to serve in the Basilica, a National Shrine, and in the Historic Mission Serra Chapel which is over 200 years old. Mission School students are trained to serve Mass, beginning in 6th.
Each school day, at the 8:30am Mass, students from Mission Basilica School grades 6-8, participate as Altar Servers. After receiving training, during their Religion Class, our 6th graders are paired with older students, so they can learn while “on the job.” Our 8th grade students serve for funeral and memorial Masses, helping grieving families through a difficult time. Our students can also choose to serve at weekend Masses.
