Service Projects
Kindergarten ~ In celebration of the birth of Jesus, kindergartners will donate baby items to the local Birth Choice. Birth Choice uses these items to make layettes for mothers in need. It is a wonderful gift for our children to give to another at this special time of year.
1st Grade ~ Collecting pop tabs is a great way to teach kids about philanthropy and the importance of recycling, and it raises funds to help children and their families at the same time. Our MBS first graders collect from the school community to support the Ronald McDonald House. Save your pop top pull tabs and send them into our class to help with our service project. Thank you!
2nd Grade ~ Second graders will be donating toys for the annual Christmas Party hosted by the Mother Teresa of Calcutta World-Center in Mexico. In December, the students of MBS will bring in a toy to help put a smile on the face of the children that were previously referred to as the “dumpster kids”. In the words of Mother Teresa, “Each one of them is Jesus in disguise!”
3rd Grade ~ The third grade’s service project is called Special Spaces. In this project, children will be designing and redecorating rooms for children who are facing a life-threatening disease.
4th Grade ~ Each fourth grader will be making a Christmas Card for a soldier serving our country overseas. In doing this, they will be spreading the holiday joy to the people who are bravely representing the United States.
5th Grade ~ The fifth grade supports the Pacific Marine Mammal Center in Laguna Beach. PMMC is a local nonprofit marine mammal hospital, focusing on rehabilitating displaced and injured marine mammals to ultimately return them to the wild. Mrs. Navaira’s class has the opportunity to support the PMMC through the “adopt a mammal” program. In the spring, 5th graders will visit the center to learn more about the hospital. For more information on PMMC, you can visit http://www.pacificmmc.org/.
6th Grade ~ The sixth grade students will be crop gleening with the Second Harvest Food Bank. Second Harvest is an organization that is working to eliminate hunger in Orange County. We believe that our volunteering with this program will help make a difference.
7th Grade ~ Our seventh graders are blessed to be able to serve at RH Dana Exceptional Needs Facility every year. RH Dana ENF is located in Dana Point and offers special education and individualized education programs to students with disabilities in grades K-5. Our students get the opportunity to spend an entire day at RH Dana. A typical visit may involve helping out with crafts and snacks, dancing with a preschooler, blowing bubbles for a 2nd grader, or just spending a quiet moment chatting with a shy 4th grader. When the day ends, the question most often asked is: “When can we go back?”
8th Grade ~ Eighth grade students are given the opportunity for Christian service by assisting with the Parish’s Serra’s Pantry Food Bank. This year, the students will also be working on a local service project called “Special Spaces” This organization provides seriously ill children with a dream remodeling of their bedroom. Students will work on fundraising for the remodel and will provide design assistance.
**6th – 8th Grade ~ Students in the Middle Grades also participate in a holiday gift collection in the winter. The gifts that they bring in are donated to the RH Dana Facility and their students. This extra service project brings the holiday cheer to the children at this center.
