Philosophy
Mission Basilica School Pre-Kindergarten ("Pre-K") is guided by the teachings of the Catholic Church, and current research and best practices in early childhood education. We are dedicated to the following values:
- Parents as the primary educators - partnering with parents in their child’s education
- Children are spiritual - and have a natural desire to develop a personal relationship with God and participate in the liturgical life of the Church
- Development of the whole child - in the fundamentals, stewardship, fine arts, leadership, technology, and community service
- Community - actively living and serving in a faith community preparing for a life of service and leadership
- Collaboration - challenged to become creative, reflective, problem solvers and decision makers
- Social justice - community and responsibility is not confined to the classroom but includes to the world around us
- Intrinsic motivation - creating life-long learners who will be challenged to think critically
- Active learning - taking an active role in the learning process rather than passively absorbing information or practicing skills
- Respecting the dignity of the child -attentive to each child’s differences, growth patterns, and interests; and present an emergent curriculum that meets the needs of every child as he/she develops
