Singing and music have been a long-standing tradition at Mission Basilica School. From the early days, at our Mission, our children have greeted the return of the Swallows in song!

Mission Basilica School Children's Choir

Our Children’s Choir focuses on liturgical music, both contemporary and traditional. The children rehearse during their lunch recess and sing at some special school Masses throughout the school year:  United Nations Day, Catholic Schools Week, St. Joseph’s Day, May Crowning and Moving Up Mass.

The children are learning correct vocal posture and breathing techniques along with simple harmonies. Our choir focuses on using our talents to serve the Lord. All children from 3rd through 8th grade are welcome to join us, without auditions. All the children need is a love of music and a desire to serve the Lord, using their musical gifts.

Mission Basilica School Cantor Program

Our older choir singers (8th. grade) are learning to cantor at our school Masses. Every Friday, at Mass, about six of our 8th grade singers lead our school community in song.  These students are learning the importance of their role as a link between the congregation and our Eucharistic table, as they encourage the community to participate through song.  This is a wonderful opportunity for the singers to blend their musical skills with their leadership skills and share their talents by encouraging the congregation to join.
