Parochial Athletic League Overview
We are part of the Parochial Athletic League, managed by the Catholic Diocese of Orange. Our immediate league includes Our Lady of Fatima Catholic School, Stoneybrooke Christian, St. John’s Episcopal School, and Aliso Viejo Christian School. Depending on the number of teams for each sport, we may compete against other schools in the area. Typically, we play each team both at home and away.
Mission Basilica Athletics
Mission Basilica Athletics is an inclusive, education-based program that emphasizes team chemistry and spirit, as teammates are also classmates. We strive to find a place for all athletes, regardless of their skill level, while remaining competitive. The title of “Student-Athlete” carries the responsibility of being a good student and displaying good sportsmanship. Our fans share this goal, as we aim to be gracious in both victory and defeat. As I always say, “We win with class and lose with class.”
Athletic Values: The C4
Our Athletic Values are centered on the C4: Character, Commitment, Catholic, and Competitive. By exemplifying these values, our team will be “explosive” in competition and experience positive growth and accomplishments.
Play Like a Champion Today!
Mission Athletics and the Parochial Athletic League have partnered with the Play Like a Champion Today! Program from the University of Notre Dame. This program uses the G.R.O.W. approach to coaching: Goals + Relationships + Ownership = Winning. Mission Athletics is committed to developing athletes by emphasizing goal-setting, teamwork, and respect among referees, coaches, players, and parents.
Playing Time
While winning is important, our highest priority is giving all children the opportunity to participate in sports. Although playing time may not be equal, we strive to ensure that every child plays in every game. Given some larger rosters this year, we ask for patience and understanding regarding playing time. Playing time is determined by the following criteria:
- Overall ability and skill level, including agility
- Knowledge of the game, including rules, terminology, and strategies
- Developmental level, including coordination, speed, and reaction time
- Coachability, including focus and attention
- Attitude
The cost to participate is an $120 Athletic Fee per sport, per season. To register, please complete the Mission Athletic Contract.
