Singing and music have been a long-standing tradition at Mission Basilica School. From the early days, at our Mission, our children have greeted the return of the Swallows in song.
JUBILEE SINGERS is our elementary school choir for GRADES 3-5 rehearsing every Tuesday after school until 4:15 in the music room.
CAMARATA is our middle school choir for GRADES 6-8 rehearsing every Thursday after school until 4:15 in the music room.
Our choirs focus on liturgical music, both contemporary and traditional. They perform for various community events, choir festivals and most importantly, our choirs enhance worship through song at our special school Masses throughout the school year: United Nations Day, Catholic Schools Week, St. Joseph’s Day, May Crowning and Moving Up Mass.
The children are learning correct vocal posture and breathing techniques along with excellent intonation and harmonization. MBS choirs focuses on using our talents to serve the Lord. All children from 3rd through 8th grade are welcome to join us, without auditions. All the children need is a love of music and a desire to serve the Lord!
Members of CAMARATA are invited to audition for our CANTOR PROGRAM. Every Friday at Mass, this small group of 8th grade singers lead our school community in song. These students are learning the importance of their role as a link between the congregation and our Eucharistic table, as they encourage the community to participate through song. This is a wonderful opportunity for the singers to blend their musical skills with their leadership skills and share their talents by encouraging the congregation to participate in worship. Our cantors rehearse every Wednesday during lunch in the music room.
